Another change to the UK’s eating habits has been the increasing demand for organic produce. Organic produce, including meat, fruit and vegetables, is produced by organic farming, a type of farming which does not include the use of chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers.
The aim is to protect the environment and wildlife by using natural predators to control pests e.g. ladybirds to eat blackfly. Natural fertilisers are used such as green manure and compost. Animals are farmed without the use of antibiotics. |

High-value vegetables such as green beans, baby corn and mangetout are grown in Kenya and imported to the UK in order that we can have the products on supermarket shelves throughout the year. UK customers are prepared to pay higher prices for vegetables when they are not in season in the UK. |
