On a blank piece of paper put the title 'Hazard Risk Homework'. Then use images and text to make a poster about the factors affecting hazard risk. In other words, what causes some natural hazards to cause more damage/deaths and some to cause much less? Think about factors such as: wealth (money), location, time of day, education levels, rock type etc. You could also research examples of real natural hazards and compare them. Why did some have bigger impacts than others?
Homework 4 - Tornado Distribution
Look at the two maps. The top map shows the names of the 50 states of the Unites States of America (USA). The bottom maps shows the average number of tornado's which occur in each state per year. Use the two maps to 'Describe the distribution of tornado's in the USA'. In other words, where do tornado's occur? What part of the USA? Which states have the most tornado's? Which states do not get many tornado's? Use the video below to help you:
Homework 5 - Create a fact file on a weather hazard of your choice Choose from: - Heatwaves - Droughts - Tropical Storms - Floods - Tornado's - Blizzards Include: - A description of the Hazard - An explanation about why/how the hazard harms humans - Describe the distribution of this hazard (where does it occur?) - Examples of when this hazard occurred and what the impacts were - What can people do to manage/protect against this hazard.
You can use a presentation method of your choice on an iPad app or paper.
Homework 6 - Choose your home learning task from the list below: 1) Research and summarise a recent event in the news to do with geography (bonus marks for finding one relevant to the topic you are studying. 2) Design a quiz (on paper or electronic to do with the topic we are studying or have recently studied). 3) Complete a stretch and challenge activity from this website. 4) Create a summary page for the topic so far. Include key facts, words and images to represent them
